Advanced Driving Courses - Take your driving to the next level

Its possible that some time during our driving day we have had some cause to be concerned over another persons driving. We may also be bold enough to admit that our driving is possibly not as good as we think it is. The other question we tend not to ask ourselves is, what could I have done to avoid that situation happening?

Advanced driving courses will prepare you for an advanced driving test. The benefits are that you will become a safer driver, reduce your crash and injury risk, increase your confidence, reduce your stress levels, and have a more responsible attitude to driving. For some of us we drive everyday of the week, yet rely on a driving test set at a very basic level to keep us safe for life.

You may not want to pass an additional test or assessment, but are interested in the coaching. In that case we will follow a course of training more suited to your requirements.

There are a number of advanced driving courses available, all of which training can be provided by Target Tuition.

Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAMs)

The IAM test lasts for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes and will usually cover between 30 and 40 miles along all types of road, town driving, motorways and dual carriageways.

Your examiner will hold a police advanced driving certificate, there is no marking system but he will look at your driving and make an overall assessment.

It is recommended you have knowledge of ' How to become an Advanced Driver' published by the Institute of Advanced Motorists and the Highway Code.

You are expected to show expect handling of the controls and make progress where necessary without compromising safety. A Safe, Smooth, Systematic drive is expected and you may be asked to perform manoeuvres which involving reversing.

This test is not easy, but with the correct training the standard necessary to pass can be achieved.

The "Skill for Life" is IAM's most popular membership option, giving you in one payment of £99.00, everything you need to pass your Advanced Driving Test and become a full member of the

institute of advanced motorists.

Diamond Advanced Car Test

The standard required to pass the Diamond advanced test is very high. The pass mark is set at a maximum of 6 driver faults, (maximum of 15 driver faults for the learner driving test) the same number as the driving instructor Part 2 test. It is therefore ideal for potential driving instructors preparing to take the driving ability test.

The candidate will need to meet the examiner at an agreed place. The test will last for approximately 1 hour. A high standard of driving will be expected and the candidate will need to demonstrate an advanced drive, particularly in the perception and safe negotiation of all hazards and in making good progress within the speed limits in force on all type of roads.

Candidates will also have to show the examiner that they can reverse round corners to the left and right, turn the vehicle round in the road to face the opposite direction and reverse park, with safety, control and accuracy.

This is the only advanced driving test available to the general public that follows the same criteria as the DSA marking system.

DSA Cardington Special Test & Diamond Special Driving Test

The special test is only available for approved driving instructors as part of their continued professional development (CPD) program. Arguably the most advanced driving test available in the UK.
